RISING STAR AWARD FOR BEST YASOPRS PRESENTATION
The Spring Rising Star Award was first presented at the Spring 2018 Meeting. Each year, this award recognizes the best YASOPRS presentations at the Spring Meeting and is given in honor of the top ASOPRS Foundation donor from the previous year.
2026
Chad Lewis, MD, for his presentation, “Beyond The Cadaver: Developing a Virtual Reality-Based 3D Orbital Atlas Validated Against the Baseline Orbital Orientation Score for Trainees (BOOST).” This 2026 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Guy Massry, MD, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2025.
Daniel Azzam, MD, for his presentation, “Financial Return on Investment of Fellowship Training in Ophthalmology: A Multicenter Study.” This 2026 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Michael Hawes, MD, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2025.

Keegan Mechels, MD, for a presentation, “Industry Payment Among Oculofacial Plastic Surgeons: An Open Payments Database Analysis.” This 2025 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Steven Couch, MD, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2024.
Tatiana R. Rosenblatt, MD, for her presentation, “Extended Long-Term Follow-Up of Proptosis Regression After Teprotumumab Treatment for Thyroid Eye Disease.” This 2025 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Edwin Augustat, MD, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2024.

Kelsey Roelofs, MD, for her presentation, “Cranial Neuropathies Arising from Perineural Spread of Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Multi-Centered Series and Review of the Literature.” This 2024 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of John B. Holds, MD, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2023.
Sruti Akella, MD, for her presentation, “Effect of Prior Botulinum Toxin A Treatment on Persistence and Recurrence of Hemifacial Spasm following Microvascular Decompression Surgery.” This 2024 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Craig Czyz DO, FACOS, FACS, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2023.

Shanlee Stevens, MD, for her presentation, “Fluorescent Marker for Identification of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Cells.” This 2023 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Dale Meyer, MD, the highest donor to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2022.

Katherine Williams, MD, for her presentation, “SARS-CoV-2 and Orbital Cellulitis in the Pediatric Population.” This 2022 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Guy Massry, MD, FACS, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2021.
Pimkwan Jaru-ampornpan, MD, for her presentation, “Options for One-Stage Reconstruction of a Large Upper Eyelid Margin Defect”. This 2022 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Richard K. Dortzbach, MD, FACS, one of the highest donors to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2021.

Clara Men, MD, for her presentation, “Transorbital Approaches to the Skull Base: An Anatomic Tool from 3D Models for Orbital Surgeons.” The 2021 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of David M. Reifler, MD, FACS, the highest donor to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2020.

Carroll, MD, the highest donor to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2019.

Emily Charlson, MD, for her outstanding talk, “Oncologic and Functional Outcomes of Orbital Exenteration versus Globe-Salvaging Therapy for Orbital Squamous Cell Carcinoma.” The 2019 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Roger A. Dailey, MD, the highest donor to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2018.

Nicholas Mahoney, MD, was the 2018 recipient for his presentation at the YASOPRS Rapid Fire Case Presentations, “Trends and Variance in Coding and Case Logging by ASOPRS Fellows.” The 2018 Spring Rising Star Award was named in honor of Edwin C. Augustat, MD, the highest donor to the ASOPRS Foundation in 2017.
